Maria's Story

Maria Kontonis-Crumb became a victim of fatal domestic violence on November 4, 2016.  She was viciously murdered in front of her two children, her daughter also injured during the attack.  Justice was served on May 7, 2018 when Robert Crumb was convicted of second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second degree assault and resisting arrest.  Her essence lives through all that knew and loved her and we will carry on her legacy of kindness and love.

Jury finds Bethpage man guilty of murdering wife

Posted: May 07, 2018 5:47 AM EDT Updated: May 07, 2018 6:14 PM EDT

MINEOLA -

A jury deliberated for about four hours Monday before returning a guilty verdict in the case of a Bethpage man accused of murdering his wife and stabbing his daughter.

Prosecutors say Robert Crumb killed his wife Maria inside their Bethpage home in November 2016. They say he stabbed his daughter as she tried to defend her mother.

Investigators say the couple's 12-year-old son also tried to stop his father before Crumb allegedly slit his wife's throat.

Crumb's lawyer argued it was a matter of self-defense -- that Crumb was defending himself from an attack by his wife and that his actions may have been influenced by his use of prescription cough medicine.

But prosecutors said Crumb carried out a targeted and vicious attack against his wife.

Police say that after carrying out the murder, Crumb took off and led police on a high-speed chase. They say he eventually crashed into a gas station in Brooklyn and then charged at police before he was arrested.

Crumb was charged with second-degree murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest. He was found guilty on all counts.

Among the last things jurors heard before deliberations began was a chilling 911 call made by the couple's son. The boy said multiple times, "My dad stabbed my mom and my sister, please hurry up."

Crumb is due to be sentenced on June 14. He faces a sentence of up to 25 years to life in prison.

His lawyer says he will appeal.http://longisland.news12.com/story/38125950/jury-finds-bethpage-man-guilty-of-murdering-wife
